Geely Company Analysis
Geely Company Analysis When globalization becomes a circumstance, many companies try to open oversea market. Here, weââ¬â¢d like to take a look at a Chinese private-own automobile company Geely. As chinaââ¬â¢s top car maker, Geely abstracted the worldââ¬â¢s eyes recently. In 2004, Geely plans to export 5,000 vehicles to the Middle East, South America and North Africa after shipping 1,000 cars to Syria in the fourth quarter of 2003 at US$4,000-$6,000 each. This year, Geely wants to open US market. But with many strong competiters in car manufactory in US, with weak reputation around chinese product, How does Geely find an appropriate approach to develop its business? This paper will try to find the answer. First, we will introduce Geely background to help reader know its history and present situation. Then we will do SWOT analysis and Entry mode comparison toward its current status to find a better approach for Geely to enter in US. We will cover chapter 4 and chapter 14 in this paper. Company opportunity Although itââ¬â¢s hard for a new automotive manufactor enter in US market, which is roughly saturated and full of strong competitors, Geely still has its own advantages and oppotunities. Its super-low price becomes a brick to knock the door of US low end vehicles market. Some other famous and successful brand bulid a good model for Geely in car image, design etc. Also, US market is huge and American people have a high consumption, if Geely can catch the oppotunities, the chance to success will be great. Now, letââ¬â¢s take a look at its company background. Company background Geely automobile company was found on March, 1997 in Zhe Jiang China. It is a private own automobile company. The registered capital of this company is RMB 20 million. In 2001, Geely automobile became the first approved private company in terms of automobile manufacture in mainland China. The chairman of the company is Li Shu Fu. He has good relationships with the Chinese government leaders and Zhe Jiang province government leaders. China has high economic growth rates since 1980s. Many Chinese people make a lot of money every year. Most of them want to own cars or need cars for many easons. So the Chinese car market become bigger and bigger. It provides a good opportunity to Li Shu Fu and his employees to realize their dream: ââ¬Å"Make the best Cars, ordinary People Can Afford. â⬠Geely automobile company hires many workers to produce different styles cars in Zhe Jiang province and operates big business in mainland China, Middle East, southern America and Africa. The operatio n of the company can affect the economic growth of Zhe Jiang province. So, Geely automobile company always gets support from the Zhe Jiang province government. Gerry automobile company is focusing on low-income market in mainland China. In the first half of 2003, Geely Company produced 34360 units of cars and renews the lowest prices of its products in the automobile industry, so the company shared 3. 84% of the total Chinese car market. At the same, the company made technical cooperation agreement with German Rucker Company. The cooperation agreement helps Geely automobile to improve its productsââ¬â¢ quality quickly. This company gets success in domestic market after its first car launched off in Linhai City Zhejiang Province. On June, 2003, the one hundred thousand Geely care launched off in Zhejiang Province. This company has import & export license and the ISO 9001 quality system certification, so it is very easy for the company to export its products to other countries. Gerry Company tries to enter in international market since its foundation. The company sells its products or establishes extensive trading relationship in different countries and areas since 2003. It seems to get success in Middle East, Southern American and Africa because the company exports large quantities of products to those areas per year. This company is looking for the opportunities to enter the U. S. market now. S. W. O. T Analysis Since we have assumed that Geely has its potential to open the automobile market in American, then the next step is to analyze the company and automobile industry environment. One of tools is provided by our text book called ââ¬Å"S. W. O. Tâ⬠analysis which stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (Sulivan, 2002). * Strength A strength could be defined as something a company is good at doing or a characteristic that gives it enhanced competitiveness. It may include aluable physical and/or human assets, an achievement or attribute that takes the company in a position of market advantage, alliances or cooperative ventures, and so on(Thompson & Strickland, 2001, p117). For Geely Automobile Company, low cost of physical and/or human assets is one of the major strengths. As we know, although Chinese labor cost is not the lowest in the world, its cost is still much lo wer than lots of industrialized countries. Besides, the average cost of raw materials, plant, and land is also cheaper than some western countries. Moreover, Geely does not only have low cost labor but also has lots of valuable human assets. In 2003, Geely recuited some experienced managers into their team including former the General Manager of SAIC Volkswagen, Vice President of FAW Volkswagen Group, President of Dongfeng Automobile Institute Research, Chief Representative of German BMW and General Manager of China region after service company of Benz Company. These lower-cost advantages make Geely achieve its low price strategy among other competitors. On May, 2003, Geely sparkplug automobile popularization and renovate the newest and lowest price of automobile in the automobile industry. For instance, Geely makes some low-priced sedans. One of those is under the brand name, Haoqing minicar which is the cheapest on the Chinese market, at just 32,000 yuan which converts to $ 3,867 U. S. dollars. Some companyââ¬â¢s alliances or cooperative ventures also build up its strength. On Dec. , 2002, Geely made contracts with Daewoo International Co. , Ltd and Maggiora S. p. A, a famous Italy automobile project group with respectively to develop CK-1 and CI-1 automobile project. On June,2003, Geely made a technical cooperation agreement with German Rucker Company. * Weakness A weakness is defined as something a company lacks or does poorly or a condition that makes the company at a disadvantage. A weakness may include lack of financial support, poor brand image or reputation and so on (Thompson & Strickland, 2001, p117). As we mentioned that Geely is a private owned company in our company background section, it is more difficult for them to get financial support in order to expand market or R&D. Furthermore, even though it made strategy corporation with several Shanghai and Zhejiang commercial banks, from an international perspective, ââ¬Å"the lack of a strong relationship with a large bank with lobal connectionsâ⬠(Sulivan, 2002, p512) seems to be a big weakness for them. The second weakness is the reputation of Chinese products. For example, every time we, including Europeans, Americans even Asians, mention made-in-China products, we probably are talking about most of toys, shores, textiles or cheap electronics, but fewer of high-tech products. It is true for Chinese automobile manufacturers such as Geely that in order to open western markets they still have a long way to build their product images. * Opportunity It is no doubt that America has one of the most favorable automobile markets in the world. The political and businesses environment such as regulation are stable and well-developed. The income per capita is also ranked at top. Besides, its infrastructures such as freeways and national transportation network are also well built. For automobile manufacturers, they can either open luxury car markets or focus on mid-income or lower-income consumers. For foreign car makers especially from Asia, Japanese opened American market in 70ââ¬â¢s and Korean opened in 90ââ¬â¢s; the next might be from China. Threats Like opportunity, a threat is also viewed at whole industry level rather than each single company. In the automobile industry, the most common threat is a lot of competitors. There are not only many worldwide well-known brands such as General Motor, Ford, Toyota, Martz-Benz which produce different kinds of luxury automobiles for high-or-mid income consumers but also lots of small m anufacturers such as Hyundai, Geely, or Chery (another Chinese automobile company) which focus on lower-income market. Another threat is fueling fears. Since Asia economy boom, the demand of natural resource such as petroleum is increased dramatically. However, nowadays, the oil reserve is decreasing. Due to the high demand and short supply in oil, consumers start to consider not only the prices of automobiles but also the ability of gasoline saving while they purchase the cars. The change of consumer purchase behaviors will directly affect automobile manufacturesââ¬â¢ market strategy and R&D. In sum, S. W. O. T analysis is very helpful for both domestic-oriented and international-oriented companies to analyze internal or external economic environment. However, after finish this analysis, there is another analysis to do ââ¬â country analysis before we choose an appropriate entry model. US Country Analysis In US, automobiles play an important role in our daily lives. We can not finish our duties without driving a car. According auto Automotive News, there are 16 million cars in US. Most of the car sales are not made US car companies. US made cars sales is around 44. 9 %. That means 55% of cars sales in US are from foreign company. Japanese cars are the most sales cars in US. There are a lot of reasons why the Japanese cars are popular in US market. First, Japanese cars are better quality and lower price than US cars. Second, the Japanese cars saves their customers in gasoline cost. Because gasoline price increases so quickly, the US economy is experiencing a inflation problem. The daily life product prices are in a rise. People have less spending power than before. The market for cheap cars will increase year by year. On the other hand, people who have higher income still want to buy an expensive car. Most of the rich people want to buy Europe cars, such as BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Audi. As for the cheap car market, Korean cars are taking over most of the sales. China automobiles may have a good chance to break into US market, because China may be more competitive than Korean cars. The car come from China also consume less gas. It is may have a good opportunity to break into US market. Entry mode Since the objective for Geely Automotives is to eventually dominate the U. S. low end vehicles market, the most appropriate way for Geely automotives to do this would be through the direct exporting along with sales subsidiary method of entry. Geely will start out by selecting markets that are more susceptible to buying Chinese vehicles such as California and certain parts of Texas. Additionally, this process is set up to allow Geely to move carefully, develop a good foundation in the U. S. markets and if the future looks favorable then Geely may eventually grow and expand from there. Since China already has some of the lowest labor costs in the world, Geely automotives may be able to leave their manufacturing plant in China and the cars will then be directly exported to the U. S. from China. Once the cars arrive then Geely U. S. subsidiary will be responsible from there on and transport the vehicles to the dealerships for sale. To augment the exporting process, Geely will open up sales subsidiary dealerships in the selected locations in California and certain parts of Texas. The function of these sales subsidiaries will be sales, customer support and along with repair and maintenance on the vehicles. The management team will be also be imported from Geelyââ¬â¢s headquarters in China, whereas sales, customer support and mechanics can be hired locally, since there is a good supply of well trained car salesmen in U. S. already. While a sales subsidiary dealership may be more expensive to set up in the U. S. than a simple sales branch, the sales subsidiary will be better for long term growth and the expenses should be off set by higher revenues earned from the subsidiary. According to Dr. Sullivan in Exploring International Business Environments, a sales subsidiary will also be better for long term growth because a sales subsidiary will allow Geely to ââ¬Å"1. Be closer in touch with end-user needs. 2. Have more control over distribution channels, And 3. Being perceived by customers as more committed to the market. â⬠( 263). Dr. Sullivan also notes that the major disadvantage of a sales subsidiary is in finding sales personal with the right mix of experience, language skills and willingness to work for foreigners. However this should not be a big issue for Geely since there is a large Chinese population in California and many well trained sales people. (263). The major thrust behind Geelyââ¬â¢s entry mode is to expand through economies of scale even if it means sacrificing short term profits. Lawrence Ang, executive director of Geely describes it clearly when he said in a recent news update: ââ¬Å"We're the most aggressive market player in pursuing price-cuts and economies-of-scale strategies,â⬠Ang continues by explaining that ââ¬Å"Market share is relatively more important for us in the near term than profit margin because China's auto industry will experience a trend of declining profit margins in the next couple of years,â⬠Furthermore, Ang concludes that ââ¬Å"â⬠We need a critical mass. Then we can push down our per-unit costs, leaving room for maneuvering on pricing. â⬠(china. org. cn) Case studyâ⬠¦ Hyundai Motors To understand the effectiveness of this entry mode better, let us look at Hyundai as an example. Hyundai first entered the U. S. market in 1986, their timing was perfect because it was a time when most automobile manufacturers were striving to dominate the higher-end markets, and this left plenty of room in the low end vehicles market. Hyundai took advantage of this by providing affordable cars for college students and lower income families. Hyundai also started out by exporting to Canada and later to the west and east coasts of U. S. where these markets are more liberal to foreign cars. Hyundaiââ¬â¢s success was immediate, setting a record by selling their 100,000th Excel in just seven months of their first appearance. (Hyundai. com). With the American car manufacturers slowly loosing market share and Hyundai moving up in their target market, this could be the perfect opportunity for Geely to enter the U. S. market and reproduce Hyundaiââ¬â¢s astounding results. Conclusion Eventually, as U. S. has huge demand of automobile, and slowly looses its market share to the Asian automobile manufacture, and as Hyundai moves to higher-end markets, this presents an opportunity for Geely. According to S. W. O. T analysis, Geely has its strength on low cost of natural resource and labor, and opportunity on focusing large demand of low-income consumers but the threat on powerful competitors, and weakness on poor reputation. Thus, if Geely could fully utilize its strength and opportunity, and build up its reputation by improving its qualities, we strongly believe that Geely could successfully enter U. S. market, and has high chance to capture part of U. S. automobile industries.

Creative Writing Project Scene Writing BY: Timothy Stevenson Romeo has just arrived in Mantua after being banished permanently by the Prince because of the death of Tybalt. Tybalt was slain as revenge for the murder of his cousin Mercutio, who Tybalt killed earlier. The earlier events of the play included Romeo falling in love at first sight and Juliet reciprocating his love. The two cannot got public which such love, as they are from rivaling houses that hate each other dearly. Romeo is extremely depressed. CHARACTERS Romeo Montague- son of Sir and Lady Montague, falls in love with Juliet and is banished for the murder of Tybalt Mercellio- lesser known servant of Romeo, seeks him out to give him information Rosaline- unseen character in the first 2 Acts makes her first, verbal appearance MANTUA ââ¬â DAY Romeo has just settled in Mantua after his night with Juliet, and is sitting on a bench outside of a park, depressed. A bird lands next to him and he studies it. Romeo Fair bird, thou not wary of me? Thou not know who I am? I am Romeo, murderer of kin and Verona exile! Iââ¬â¢m a cruel murderer and I long for my own destruction. As the pearl of light has been stripped from me because of these fatal events, you bird should not be around me. You may be slain as well! Youââ¬â¢ve neââ¬â¢er experienced the destruction that occurs around me. Everything beautiful is stripped and dies slowly in my presence like I am intertwined with the eerie death that takes everything wondrous away and makes everything sad. To be near me is to be near everything evil and undesirable. Fallen Tybalt, my kin, eliminated because of the end of the story of great Mercucio. To exact revenge was to be stripped of the illustrious Juliet. Fear me, bird. Fear my very presence. The bird pecks him on the hand and it begins to bleed. The bird flies away while Romeo stares at the wound the bird has caused. Romeo Thank you bird! I deserve it and more. To walk into war without a weapon to be slain of such heart gripping pain! How about the apothecary gives me 20 gallons of their finest poison, sweet poison that I can engorge myself to be stripped of my love and the light of this cold world. The world is a dark void without her glow to illuminate even the darkest of caverns. The blackest kettle would be turned white by her presence. Her gleamââ¬â¢s name is Juliet, oh full Juliet, your beauty encompasses everything and more. And as fate plays such a cruel game, your shameless gameâ⬠¦show your face! Show it so that I can slay you most beautifully! The banishment from sweet Verona is most undesirable. Iââ¬â¢d appreciate the sweet vengeance of death than the nagging fault of banishment. To know that admirable Juliet is sealed behind the walls of Verona away from me without me able to anything about itâ⬠¦is agony. This is true agony of a tireless heart. Romeo interrupts briefly to look at the cloudy sky. Enter Mercellio, servant of Romeo] Mercellio Romeo, oh fair Romeo! I have most remarkable news! News thatââ¬â¢ll alleviate your gloom! Your mood of Juliet has made you an evil character, made you feel less than a man shall ever feel and you continue to drown yourself face first into the waters of sorrow. Art thou is Romeo! Romeo must not tirelessly wane and moan and cry to skies that arenââ¬â¢t li steningâ⬠¦ ROMEO To alleviate anything means that you must mean death! Nothing can revive me from the mood that Iââ¬â¢m in. Nothing can wash the pain of not seeing sweet Juliet ever againâ⬠¦nothing foolish servant! What simple boast do you plan to tell me? The only news of Juliet with me will bring me happiest, imprudent one. Thatââ¬â¢s an impossible task that not even the bravest of men can succeed in. To fall in love and to be stripped of it so cleanly is the inferior destiny of my dismal life. Life is nothing without her. News means nil unless itââ¬â¢s new of my return to Verona. I imagine killing myself just so I wouldnââ¬â¢t have to deal with such crushing pain and now as I drown in it I cannot cut my ties to this world as to cut my ties would end with truly never being with her again. MERcellio You cannot continue life like this forever, brave Romeo. To let this consume you is to give up life itself and starve for the affections of a single woman is absolutely ludicrous. You cannot continue like this sir. ROMEO You know nothing of the pain Iââ¬â¢m feeling. You could never experience something so agonizing as such; to hinder the ability of sleep is the pain Iââ¬â¢m feeling. Worse than the death of the most important thing to you is the realization that you can never be with the one that means the most to you. You are a complete fool to call me ludicrousâ⬠¦ludicrous! Thou is ludicrous for not being able to experience this with me, ludicrous for thinking I can just let such emotions waver. The attempt of capturing Juliet and simply vanishing from all eyes keeps me here, keep me from revealing my sheathed sword and slaying you with your foolish words. MERCELLIO Slaying me because of a female is absolutely ludicrous! I have known you for quite some time, good Romeo and you again and again looked for women to reciprocate your love to and asked for the hearts of many women, only to see your heart wrung mercilessly by such. You find this lifestyle un and continue, hoping to find such a woman to return it to you! Because young Juliet arrival of emotion upon you is enough to lay in distraught, thinking about what could and could not have been. Is life that closed of a circle, dear Romeo? ROMEO What is life with a Juliet? There is no life to think of without such a creature, unrealistic until I found her waiting for me in the chains of the Capuletââ¬â¢ s. Why have you ventured out for me, dim Mercellio? What have you to tell me? MERCELLIO Ah, yes! To argue with you is to forget my true intentions of seeking you out. To find you to reveal to you news that may be pleasing to ones ear, though ones mood may completely destroy it as another beautiful beacon searches for Romeo to talkâ⬠¦ Romeo interrupts Marcellio in mid-speech, effective cutting him off. ROMEO What woman do you speak of, servant? What is she called? Where is her place of? Lastly, if she isnââ¬â¢t Juliet, I do not desire this information in the least bit. No woman can compare to the excruciating emotion that will overcome me when I see her fairness once again. Oh, Juliet. MERCELLIO This girl isnââ¬â¢t the much desired Juliet you long forâ⬠¦ ROMEO Then what need do I need such information. Go, Mercellio before you regret coming as your life will be stripped from you with my blade. MERCELLIO Please, kind Romeo. This woman states that she knows you and sheââ¬â¢s waiting for youâ⬠¦she was timid in meeting you again but she longs to meet you once again. She has nagged to me in the journey how she longs for you once again and is ready to begin with youâ⬠¦ romeo Who Marcellio? Speak before I slay you with my sword. This is the last time I will say such a thing before I do it! Your very next word shall be her name! Romeo quickly stands up and unsheathes his sword. Mercellio quickly leaps to his feet. MARCELLIO Rosaline! Sweet Rosaline has longed to see you again! Romeo drops his sword in shock at Mercellioââ¬â¢s words. ROMEO Astonishing Rosaline? Where art thou? [Enter Rosaline, sullen] Rosaline Romeo, oh Romeo. My heart aches for your sun. You evaded and left your efforts with me to be with the wondrous Juliet, fair beautiful Juliet and left me distraught. Your attempts at me have been refuted and your eye gazed at a younger beauty. Have you forgotten me Romeo? You no longer desire me, and instead desire youthful Juliet? ROMEO Oh, how fate tests me! Banishment from Verona has caused the most unlikely of meetings! I meet you, here, in the streets of Mantua asking for me! Through me finding love in a beautiful flower races the devilââ¬â¢s cry to change me into nothing! Temptation is at its highest peak than it had ever been and I still find the strength to resist it! Youââ¬â¢ve long for me, elegant Rosaline? Ha! How art thou found me? ROSALINE I have longed for you, fair Romeo. I have asked ones, ones that knew of your location, through this I have located you and finally find you in remarkable Mantua. Can you not see how I long for Romeo, my Romeo? The Romeo that has lust for me with the purest of loves? My fair Romeo? ROMEO Your Romeo! Ah, alas you tempt to woe me into submission with your cries of longing? Thou wrote you poems of love and I have gone unnoticed by your beautiful eye! Thank you! For looking for you I found a much better flower, a sweet innocent flower waiting for me, locked waiting for her lover! The loves Iââ¬â¢ve harnessed with tight straps have completely drawn my blood blue with pain and suffocation, as you couldnââ¬â¢t see the blue! You couldnââ¬â¢t see anything in those appealing eyes, cold as the fiercest of winters and the snow that assists them! Thou trick with in incantations! ROSALINE You no longer see me as a beautiful sun? The sweet essence which you said you wanted, you breathed, the attention youââ¬â¢ve given, the feelings youââ¬â¢ve told me have now disappeared into the dark halls of time? Instead of greeting me with the passion that youââ¬â¢ve always have, you shun me like a common whore, embarrassing me like some common mistress. You seem to not care that Iââ¬â¢m here, asking for my Romeo! ROMEO Why art thou here! ROSALINE I long for my Romeo! The Romeo that made my heart glow with passion and intensity! ROMEO The Romeo you seek is gone, hidden in the shadows, and forever departed. I no longer lust for you Rosaline. You were once a beautiful rose that quickly wilted and the dust has been removed from your vision you want to come to me? Iââ¬â¢m lost at sea thirsting for a sweet whiff of Juliet. You have expired like the curds floating atop of milk. MERCELLIO Rosaline has been longing for you a while, good Romeo. Your attempts at you have not gone unnoticed like a wolfââ¬â¢s cry in the woods, but young Rosaline has been tried many times and has seen many failures in her life, aiding in her wary to appeal to you as well. As a troubled soul now she seek me out, throughout the danger to come and see you Romeo. Have you truly no emotion residing inside of you but the emotion of fair Juliet? Thou doesnââ¬â¢t care that Rosaline left Verona to come and meet with you? Thou are truly dark? Sworn to chastity, poor Romeo is depressed an ignorant to see the feelings of one Capulet that defied all in seeing you? ROMEO Thou has not wanted me until thou seen me with Juliet! Thou are selfish in her desire to try and steal me! As her cousin, you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself! ROSALINE I have no such desire! You have desire to still be with I! You still want I! As you refute and deny it, you cannot forget about me as you claim you have! I will never be erased from your mind! ROMEO What did you plan to do, beautiful Rosaline, when you came here? Woe me back into my love for you like a foolish kid who has nothing else to do? Because I will not slip into a fatal trap! I have undying love for Julietâ⬠¦Julietâ⬠¦ ROSELINE I didnââ¬â¢t come to woe you of anything Romeo and as we speak, I myself am risking banishment and exile from Verona and from my kin! I wanted to admit to youâ⬠¦ ROMEO Admit what? What is there to admit? You have nothing viable to say! Youââ¬â¢re risking everything for nothing! Arenââ¬â¢t you? ROSALINE Risking everything for nothing is not how I felt, dear Romeo. I felt a different way. I felt I had to tell you how I felt, if you long to hear it. [Romeo looks at Rosaline and as he is about to open his mouth, curtain close]

Is The Heart Of Islam - 983 Words
What, in your opinion, is the heart of Islam? The heart of Islam is The One True God. The concept of one God is the basis on which the entire religion of Islam revolves around. This concept is the foundation upon with the religion of Islam is built. In fact, the actual definition of Islam means submission; submission to their one true God. Islam followers are called Muslim and the definition of Muslim means one who surrenders or submits to the will of God. Based on these definitions alone, it is apparent that the heart of Islam is the One True God, also known by his Arabic name, Allah (Voorst, 2015). To better understand the heart of Islam, one must know the history of Islam. Islam really begins with Muhammad who is the prophet of the One True God. According to Islamic belief, Muhammad received many prophecies and revelations from the archangel Gabriel. All of these prophecies and revelations were collected and documented by his followers from 64-656 C.E. Together all the prophecies and revelations make up Islamââ¬â¢s sacred scripture, the Qurââ¬â¢an. Muhammad began spreading these revelations in the city of Mecca, but since Mecca was a city of idolism, his revelations were not well received. Mecca was a city that depended on the Idol worship as a form of tourism and the people of Mecca feared that being destroyed. Research Paper on Business
Research Paper on Business As far business is concerned, we always separate tangible and intangible assets. While tangible assets are something that you can put in the companyââ¬â¢s bottom line, intangible assets are much more difficult to measure in monetary terms. A lot of attention has been given to the research and analysis on the benefits of the resource-based management and supply chain development, but not a lot of works really considered intangible elements of this management type. This paper will look at the intangible element of the resource-based management and will focus on the following primary research question: What are the major implications of the communication and information flow in successful implementation of the resource-based supply chain? The research methods, used in this document, are written survey and interview within the large multinational corporations that represent major economic niches of the country. Written survey will analyse the effectiveness of the information transmission in three organizations that represent the following business spheres: automotive industry, retail business and telecom industry. The sample of the survey is limited to 102 respondents, equally split between company A, B and C, in order to represent the population of the city businesses that implemented resource-based management system during the last five years. Primary objective of this research method is to receive practical evidence to support main research hypotheses. Second research method is an interview that is mainly targeting senior management within top 10 organizations in three industries, considered for the survey. Questions that will be asked during the interview are as following: Is current communication effective? What are the major constraints of internal information flow? What are the external limitations of the effective operational management in the organization? By analyzing and examining both outcomes from the survey and interview, we will be able to support or find the arguments against our hypotheses and answer our primary research questions. The results of the research paper will have both academic and practical value.

The Issues Surrounding Stem Cell Research - 1262 Words
ââ¬Å"At its core, this issue forces us to confront fundamental questions about the beginnings of life and the ends of science. It [stem cell research] lies at a difficult moral intersection, juxtaposing the need to protect life in all its phases with the prospect of saving and improving life in all its stages.â⬠George W. Bush in his address at the Bush Ranch in Texas precisely captures the essence of the issues surrounding stem cells. ââ¬Å"Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the capability of self replication as well as being able to give rise to diverse types of differentiated or specialized cell lines.â⬠(Stien). Researching these cells can lead cures some of the most devastating ailments. Despite the researchââ¬â¢s vastâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬Å"Stem cell researchers believe that much greater results could be achieved by using embryonic stem cells because these cells can differentiate into a far greater number of cell typesâ⬠(pote ntial uses for stem cells). Stem cells are affected heavily by their environment. For example, ââ¬Å"researchers have taken adult stem cells from the brains of rats and put them in bone marrow and watched, in astonishment, as they spewed out blood cellsâ⬠(Gorman). When harvesting embryonic cells the embryo is destroyed essentially ending any chance of life. On the other hand, somatic stem cells can be found within humans throughout any stage of life and obtaining these cells result in no harm to the donator. However, somatic cells do not have near the same promise as embryonic cells but, they still have many uses. Thus, these cells challenge both the boundaries of science and boundaries of our morals to obtain a healthy life. In 2001, George W. Bush outlawed federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research (Thompson). Without proper funding for the research the scientists were restricted by their funds to finding the cures theyââ¬â¢ve dedicated their life to. Since the the government stopped funding the research the progress essentially halted however, in 2009 things changed. In a landmark decision, President Obama lifted the ban on the funding of stem cell research with the signing of an executive order on March 9th. According to President Obama in his

Montessori System of Education Essay Example
Montessori System of Education Essay By: Saleem Younis Cheema (Chairman Angels School System Daska) M. A. (Education) M. A. (Pol. Sc. ) M. A. (History) D. I. A. , P. G. D. E. ,D. C. S. , D. E. L. Diploma in Montessori (American Council) Diploma in Admin. (Govt. of Pak. ) Certificate in Education,(Oxford University) Certificate in Teacher Training NPO (Govt. of Pakistan) Ex. Research Officer Lecturer (Punjab University Lahore) The latest and best pre-school educational system is no doubt, Montessori Sytem. This system was introduced and organized by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1906, when she observed mentally retorted children and experienced with the extensive studies of Frobel, Itard and Seguin. On the ideas of Itard and Seguin, she developed and devised didactic material, which is used in Montessori System with children in a special environment that is called prepared environment. Dr. Maria Montessori said that she didnââ¬â¢t know how to teach the children, they taught me how to teach them. She did a lot of work on her system, spent all her time in teacherââ¬â¢s training and traveled extensively to promote her method. This is the reason that after passing so long time period Montessori system is prevailing all over the world. The primary aim of all the teaching systems is to educate the child, right from the beginning so that by the time he becomes an adult, he has the knowledge of the world around him. Knowledge brings us closer to God and distinguishes man from animals. God in fact has directed every human being to seek knowledge. This knowledge does not dawn on the child itself, it is rather imparted by the adults. A trained directress brings out the potentials of man in a child through self construction and makes the child achieve maximum standards of intellect, moral and culture. The special environment in which trained directress works with the child is prepared environment, whish is an extension of home, where the child willingly spend sometime to learn through didactic material with the help of directress. Dr. Maria Montessori also did a lot of work on child development and child psychology. Self construction is the central point of her education philosophy. She focused on first 6 years of the childââ¬â¢s life. During these years of a child two creative sensibilities work in a child i. e; absorbent mind and sensitive period. With these two sensibilities the child interacts with his environment around him, takes the good or bad impressions form his surroundings and gradually develops his personality. However the development of a childââ¬â¢s personality is also effected by a Psychic Pattern ââ¬Å"Spiritual Embryoâ⬠, which is laid down in a child during his Pre-natal development. After birth during Post-natal development from 0-6 years a child gains knowledge from his environment with the help of special gifted mind i. e; Absorbent mind. The process of learning starts with taking in impressions in his subconscious mind unconsciously, without being aware of it and without being tired of it from 0-3 years, then gradually by movements and spontaneous activities he makes these impressions meaningful and in doing so he passes through unconscious absorbent mind to conscious absorbent mind (3-6 years) trading always in the paths of joy and love. Child is a busy constructor and loves to work, so through activities and manipulation of the objects through hands in the environment he constructs his intellectual level. Another sensibility in the child is ââ¬Å"Sensitive Periodsâ⬠. Every child is attracted towards certain things in his environment with an irresistible impulse and well defined activity. These certain things in his environment are like language, culture, order, courtesy, imitations, movements etc. Different sensitive periods have different time periods. During these sensitive periods the child gains knowledge and different functions, through concentration and repetition of activities. These sensitive periods are transitory but their impressions are everlasting, and the child works without any tiredness, he feels joy, calmness and satisfaction. Now itââ¬â¢s directress duty to recognize the certain sensitive periods in childââ¬â¢s development and to make his learning perfect. Dr. Montessori rightly says that sensitive period in the child development is a ââ¬Å"drama of love between the child and his environment. Absorbent mind is a rich mind has a special energy called ââ¬Å"Hormeâ⬠. During the period of unconscious absorbent mind (0-3 years) this ââ¬Å"Hormeâ⬠guides the child to ââ¬Å"build up yourselfâ⬠and develops the memory of the child. He takes in the impressions from his environment which later on becomes permanent. In conscious absorbent mind (3-6 years) ââ¬Å"Hormeâ⬠pushes the child to ââ¬Å "explore the worldâ⬠. At this stage he is conscious constructor and had a determined choice and will. His hands are now instruments of his intelligence. Another aspect of childââ¬â¢s development is Deviation. Every child develops from nothing to something through certain invisible forces, which Montessori called inner directives. These inner directives and two streams of energies i. e; mental and physical, guides the child to build up. But if there are some obstacles on the path of inner directives, or if both the energies are not interplaying in balance, than child is not developing normally, he is now a deviated child. Deviated child is a problem child not for himself, but also for his society. Psychic fugues and Psychic barriers are two types of deviation. In Psychic fugues child remains in touch with reality but lose his concentration and interests towards reality. But in Psychic barriers child flees into fantasies and grows barriers between him and adults. Fugues are easier to cure than Psychic barriers, now it is the duty of directress to normalize the child gently through Purposeful and spontaneous activities. Directress should fulfill the rights of a child explained by Dr. Maria Montessori. i. Right to be respected. ii. Right to refuse the work. iii. Right to repeat the work. iv. Right to work at his own speed and rhythm. Independent learning and spontaneous activity are key ideas of Montessori System. In Montessori system the process of childââ¬â¢s learning is followed by the development of six senses and language with the help of exercises of every day practical life through cultural activities. The child is directed towards activities gradually and firmly under the kind guidance of trained directress/mother/aunty. Every activity is performed in prepared environment with real objects, which leads certain learning in childââ¬â¢s personality and different modes of behaviour appear while interacting with his environment. Specially prepared didactic material is used in all these activities. When every child performs activities in prepared environment or in school with real objects. He develops realistic point of view in his personality. Along with Montessori System some other pre-school systems are prevailing also like Nursery System and Kindergarten (K. G) system. But in these system psychological and physiological needs of the childââ¬â¢s personality are ignored, child has no rights and no respect. So childââ¬â¢s personality is repressed rather than progress. [pic] So we can conclude that according to the needs of time and requirements of the childââ¬â¢s development Montessori system is the perfect system, in which social, moral, intellectual, psychological, physiological cultural needs, and rights of a child are preferred. Child develops realistic approaches in his personality that helps him to make his interaction with his society better and easy in coming life. Dr. Maria Montessori
